Laboratory for Pathomorphological and Electron Microscopic Study

The Laboratory includes, as the clinical division, the Laboratory for Pathoanatomy and Tissue Preservation.
The first head of the laboratory was Valentyn Voino-Yasenetskyi, who was invited in 1946 by V. Filatov for creation and heading of a new division.
The main scientific direction of the laboratory was studying of processes of corneal graft engraftment, tissue incompatibility and tissue preservation. The laboratory has been headed by professor Valerii Vit since the end of 1980s, after retirement of professor V. Voino-Yasenetskyi. Development of scientific themes was renewed, that was started by V. Voino-Yasenetskyi, – investigations of tumors of the eye, its adnexa and orbit, that were supplied by other scientific directions.
Head of the laboratory Oleksandr Artemov, Cand.of Med. Sc., pathologist of higher category.

The laboratory for pathoanatomy and tissue preservation carries out clinical diagnosis of pathological processes of the visual organ:
studying of visual organ tumors, appendages and orbits;
studying of histomorphological, histochemical, morphometric, electron microscopic studies in simulated pathological processes of the visual organ and the action of various factors on it – ultrasound, magnetic fields, laser and ionizing radiation, biogenic stimulants, toxic substances, etc.
During the period of work of the laboratory, specialists published 27 monographs (18 of them – after 2000) on various sections of ophthalmology and related allied sphere of medicine and biology, including problems of transplantation (4), oncology (3), cataractogenesis (3), methodology of scientific creativity (2), the atlas of congenital eye pathology in children (1), ocular pathology (1).
