Main directions of fundamental research:

• study of structural mechanisms, mainly therapeutic effects on eye tissues of various physical factors: ultrasound, electromagnetic field, lasers;
• study of age and pathological changes in various tissues of the eye;
• study of experimental glaucoma and hypertension;
• questions of scleroplasty;
• study of the nature of photocoagulation when melanoblastoma;
• study of the impact on the eye tissues of relatively small doses of ionizing radiation;
• dystrophic processes in the tissues of anterior and posterior segments of the eye;
• various issues related to the pathogenesis and therapy of glaucomatous process, antiglaucomatous action of lasers;
• study of structural mechanisms of influence on eye tissues as pharmaceuticals, high-frequency electric welding and medicine for intravitreal injection;
• study of the ultrastructure of secondary cataracts and pupillary membranes,occurred in children;
• study of effects of toxic factors on the visual analyzer;
• experimental study of medicine in the form of nanoparticles on the eye tissues on eye burn models and contusions in order to be implemented them in ophthalmology;
• study of the ultrastructure of newly formed vessels of epiretinal membranes in patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy .

There were published over 470 scientific papers in national and international scientific journals. Sections on fundamental ultrastructural study included 22 PhD and 33 candidates’ theses. There are rationalization proposals and patents.

The Laboratory equipped with an electron microscope (0,5 nm range resolution, electron optical magnification of 50 × to 200,000 ×) and other high-tech equipment to process samples.

Researches are carried out by highly qualified experts in electron microscopy, who have extensive experience.
