A method for restoring the size, position, and shape of the pupil in cases of microcoria and corectopia complicated by a persistent irido-lenticular membrane (PILM) was developed. This technique makes it possible not only to clear the visual axis of the eye from obliterating PILM, but also to restore the correct position, shape, and size of the pupil, enabling free constriction and dilation in all meridians.

A new method for removing a microspherophakic lens dislocated into the anterior chamber or incarcerated in the pupil during an acute glaucoma attack was proposed. The developed surgical technique enables atraumatic anterior removal of the lens and, when necessary, significantly reduces the extent of vitrectomy to only the anterior layers of the vitreous body. A method of subthreshold micropulse laser coagulation for chronic central serous chorioretinopathy was developed. Non-invasive laser treatment using a 577 nm wavelength laser in micropulse mode, acting on retinal pigment epithelium cells, allows achieving complete or partial regression of subretinal fluid in 93% of cases. For the first time worldwide, Institute staff developed a method for postoperative management of patients after penetrating keratoplasty with traumatic eyelid colobomas. The method resolves graft epithelialization issues after penetrating keratoplasty in patients with traumatic eyelid colobomas and provides conditions for transparent graft engraftment after ocular trauma, yielding a positive socio-economic effect. A unique surgical procedure was performed to remove an intraocular metallic foreign body (wire). Specialists of the Institute’s Department of Post-Traumatic Eye Pathology used an X-ray localization method to precisely determine the position of a mobile intraocular foreign body with the patient in the supine position on the operating table, successfully performed the surgery, and preserved the patient’s vision.

It was shown that myopization of the rat eyeball with elongation of the anteroposterior axis in a model of type 2 diabetes partially reduces the severity of ultrastructural changes in the chorioretinal complex. This effect is achieved both by reducing choroidal edema and by the predominance of compensatory processes in the endothelium and retinal pigment epithelium with enhanced protein-synthesizing and energy-producing functions. It was established that noninfectious anterior and intermediate uveitis induced by horse serum in rabbits causes hydropic degeneration of endothelial cells of the choriocapillaris and retinal cells, especially the retinal pigment epithelium.
