Today, both children and adults are spending too much time in front of screens. This is the main factor behind the development of myopia (nearsightedness) — now often referred to as a "disease of civilization."

Professor Andrii Rostyslavovych Korol, Acting Deputy Director for Scientific Work and Head of the Department for the Study of the Biological Effects and Application of Lasers in Ophthalmology at the Filatov Institute, shared insights on prevention and modern treatment approaches in an interview for the Ukrainian Information Service.

✅ What helps preserve eye health?

  • Follow the 50/10 rule: 50 minutes of work – 10 minutes of rest for your eyes.
  • Look into the distance (over 5 meters) — it helps reduce eye strain.
  • Take short breaks with your eyes closed.
  • Daily outdoor activity and walks are a must.
  • Ensure your workspace is well-lit with sufficient lighting.

✅ The unique expertise of the Filatov Institute includes:

  • Treatment of rare ophthalmological pathologies, including uveal melanoma (1 case per 500,000 people).
  • Performing tens of thousands of advanced laser procedures for vision correction and treatment.
  • Providing care for wounded Ukrainian defenders.
  • Implementing cutting-edge scientific methods and technologies.

💡 “Treating your eyes with care improves not only the quality of your vision but also your work productivity,” emphasizes Professor Korol.
