EXAMINATION OF IMMUNE STATUS AT THE FILATOV INSTITUTE

Health
31.10.2023

The term ‘immune status’ may loosely be considered as synonymous with the older term of ‘host resistance’, a concept in relation to disease which has been championed by some but ignored by others for many years. There have been attempts to augment host resistance by immunological manipulation since immune processes were first discovered at the beginning of this century. Early attempts were crude and directed towards increasing immunity to specific antigens, usually microbial, such as tuberculin extracts or bacterial vaccines. It was hoped that the increase in immunity to a particular antigen might be reflected in increased general immunity or ‘resistance’.

Laboratory studies are needed to determine the presence of primary immunodeficiency in people. These tests are usually performed after a person has clinical symptoms, in particular recurrent and/or chronic infections.

An accurate medical history, family medical history and physical examination are critical to developing the best laboratory assessment strategy. This usually starts with screening tests and then more complex (and expensive) tests selected based on screening test results. If clinical problems include infections, information about the types of microorganisms that cause infection, infection sites, and the therapy needed to treat infections often helps focus laboratory research.

We invite you to undergo an examination in the laboratory of immunological researches of the Filatov Institute.
