When should contact lenses not be used?
There are several situations when it is not recommended to wear contact lenses to avoid discomfort and the risk of complications:
- During illness
Respiratory infections: during a cold, flu, or other respiratory infections, it is better to avoid wearing contact lenses as it can increase the risk of eye infections.
Eye infections: if you have conjunctivitis (bacterial, viral, or allergic), keratitis, or other eye infections, do not wear contact lenses until fully recovered.
- During sleep
If your lenses are not designed for overnight wear, avoid sleeping in them as it can lead to insufficient oxygen supply to the cornea and increase the risk of infections and other complications.
- Water and humid environments
Swimming and bathing: do not wear contact lenses while swimming in pools, the sea, or lakes, or while taking a shower. Water can contain microorganisms that can cause serious eye infections.
Sauna and steam room: in these conditions, lenses can dry out or deform due to high temperatures and humidity.
- Seasonal allergies
During peak allergy periods, pollen, dust, and other allergens can accumulate on the lenses, causing discomfort and inflammation. During these times, it may be better to use glasses.
- Irritation, redness and discomfort
Dryness: if you experience significant dryness in your eyes, you may need to avoid wearing lenses until the condition improves.
Redness: if your eyes are red or irritated, it is better to remove the lenses and consult an ophthalmologist.
- Use of cosmetics
Applying and removing makeup: put on lenses before applying makeup and remove them before taking off makeup to avoid getting cosmetic products on the lenses and in your eyes.
- Medical procedures
Surgeries: before any surgical procedures (especially on the eyes), consult your doctor about the necessity of wearing lenses.
Diagnostic procedures: some diagnostic procedures may require temporary discontinuation of lens wear.
- Violation of care rules
Replacement schedule: do not wear lenses longer than the recommended period. Use only fresh solution for storing lenses and change it daily.
Following these recommendations will help maintain eye health and avoid complications associated with wearing contact lenses.
