Ocular ultrasound diagnostics (ultrasound) B-scan plays an important role in the diagnosis and treatment of various intraocular disorders in both transparent and opaque eyes. Eye ultrasound is a visualization technique that uses high-frequency sound waves used instead of light to create an image of the net and surrounding structures. The ultrasound technique is used to identify complications of diabetic retinopathy, including secretion of the vitreous body, retinal detachment and blood circulation under the retina.

B-scan is often used to identify concealed pathologies and to characterize clearly visible pathologies. Some examples include: differentiation of the rhegmatogenous from the exudative retinal detachment; differentiation of druzen from papilledema; defining the type of intraocular tumors.

In ophthalmic oncology, B-scan is commonly used for the primary and subsequent evaluation of retinoblastoma. Retinoblastoma is a malignant retinal cancer that occurs in childhood.

In the Department of Physiotherapeutic Methods of Treatment and Ultrasound Diagnostics of the Filatov Institute, B-scan can be used to diagnose ocular pathology in patients with acute conditions such as occlusion or central retinal artery injuries leading to retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhages, or lens dislocation.
