"Red eyes" is a symptom in which the main clinical signs are redness or blood filling of the vessels of the conjunctiva of the eye. Redness occurs when tiny blood vessels under the surface of the eye increase or inflame. It's usually a reaction to something that irritates the eyes.
Redness can be on one or both eyes. It may develop over time or appear suddenly, for example, with allergies or an eye injury.
Eye redness may be accompanied by other symptoms such as:

• Eye pain.
• Itching.
• Eye discharge.
• Swelling of the eyelids.
• Changes in the star, for example, blurred vision.

Red eyes have many different causes. Sometimes your eyes turn red if you wear contact lenses for too long or look at the monitor/phone screen for too long without interruption. Some other common causes are:

• Allergy.
• Blepharitis.
• Conjunctivitis.
• Dry eye syndrome.
• Eye injury.
• Glaucoma.

Make an appointment with an ophthalmologist to get treatment immediately if you have any of these symptoms, except red eyes:
• Eye pain.
• Light sensitivity.
• Swelling.
• Blurred vision.
