The State Institution "The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" held a ceremonial meeting to award and confirm the status "CLEAN HOSPITAL SAFE FOR PATIENT" to its departments on September 23, 2024.

Every year, healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) becomes more relevant and closer to each patient and healthcare worker in Ukrainian healthcare facilities (HCF). To disseminate knowledge about the consequences of HAIs and organize safety measures, the Infection Control Services Organization has been actively operating in Ukraine since 2008. The main mission of the service is to preserve the health of the staff and patients of the institutions.

As a result of a hygiene audit conducted by ICSO specialists, the Division of restoration and reconstructive microsurgery of posttraumatic pathology of the eye of the Filatov Institute passed the first stage and was awarded the status "Clean Hospital Safe for Patient." At the same time, departments that received the status "Clean Hospital Safe for Patient" in 2023 successfully passed the scheduled inspection and met program's requirements. These departments include the reception department, the microbiology group of sanitary and epidemiological department, the clinical diagnostic laboratory, the department of anesthesia, the department of physiotherapeutic methods of treatment and ultrasound diagnostics, the laboratory of immunological research, the centralized sterilization group, the division of microsurgical treatment of eye diseases in children, the department of microsurgical treatment of glaucoma and lens pathology, the division of vitreoretinal microsurgery, the division of laser microsurgery of eye disease and the operating department.

By obtaining this status, departments received plaques and certificates with inscriptions, placing them at the entrance, which visually assure each patient of 100% cleanliness. This enhances the patient's inner confidence and psychological stability, increasing their trust in the doctor. In turn, the created hygiene model allows medical staff to feel comfortable at work.

Thus, with the status "Clean Hospital Safe for Patient," a healthcare institution has: a well-established hygiene system, practically and theoretically trained staff, prestige and public approval, a high level of trust in the doctor.
