Report on the Educational Seminar
"Academic integrity and digital tools: policy, plagiarism and AI-Generated content"
On June 26, 2025, the State Institution “The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of NAMS of Ukraine” hosted an educational seminar on “Academic integrity and digital tools: policy, plagiarism and AI-Generated content.” The event took place in the small conference hall of the main building and gathered more than 50 participants, including postgraduate students, early-career researchers, teaching staff and prospective PhD candidates.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness within the academic community regarding the practical aspects of academic integrity and to introduce participants to digital tools for detecting plagiarism and analyzing AI-generated content.
The seminar program featured three insightful presentations:
🔹 Speaker: Nataliia Pavlivna Lopatina
“Academic integrity policy: preventing and detecting academic plagiarism”
The speaker reviewed the regulatory framework governing academic integrity, common types of violations, prevention strategies, and real-case practices in internal quality control of academic texts.
🔹 Speaker: Valeriia Viktorivna Myrnenko
“A Powerful tool for educators: StrikePlagiarism and its key features”
Participants were introduced to the StrikePlagiarism system, its functionality for assessing qualification and academic works, and approaches to interpreting similarity reports.
“Using StrikePlagiarism to identify AI-Generated content”
This presentation focused on the modern challenges posed by generative AI in science and education, and highlighted the tool's capabilities for detecting automatically generated content.
📌 All participants received 10 points within the framework of continuing professional development activities.
The seminar helped enhance participants’ understanding of academic integrity policies and provided practical knowledge on the effective use of StrikePlagiarism. It also outlined current risks associated with AI-generated content and methods for its identification.
