Larysa Yukhymivna Cherikchi was a distinguished figure in Ukrainian medicine and the founder of physiotherapy in ophthalmology in Ukraine. Her scientific career began upon the recommendation of Academician Volodymyr Petrovych Filatov, which determined the further development of an entire field in medicine.

For many years, Larysa Yukhymivna conducted extensive experimental and clinical research, the results of which led to the development of effective physiotherapeutic methods for the treatment of various eye diseases. Her work laid the foundation for the modern approach to the use of physical factors in ophthalmology.

One of her key achievements was the introduction of the electroelimination method — a unique technology that made it possible to study the pathochemistry of inflammatory processes in the eye and effectively apply this knowledge in treatmentAt the same time, methods of medicinal electrophoresis were developed, in particular using aloe extract, which showed high clinical effectiveness in the treatment of a wide range of  ocular pathologies.

Her monograph “Physiotherapy in Ophthalmology” became a textbook for many ophthalmologists across the country. The great scientific and practical significance of Larysa Yukhymivna’s work contributed to the rapid development of physiotherapy in ophthalmology in various regions. The Ministry of Health, on the basis of the institute’s physiotherapy laboratory, established a scientific and methodological center for physiotherapy in ophthalmology.

Larysa Yukhymivna successfully defended her Candidate and Doctor of Sciences dissertations, was awarded the academic title of Professor, and headed the Scientific and Methodological Center for Physiotherapy in Ophthalmology of the Ministry of Health. Her scientific contributions became the foundation for further research and were continued by numerous students and colleagues of the V.P. Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. She not only created a new medical field but also established a scientific school that continues to develop her ideas today.

Larysa Yukhymivna Cherikchi will forever remain in history as the founder of the scientific and practical application of physiotherapy in ophthalmology in Ukraine — a person of great intellect, dedication to science, and devotion to her life’s work.
