On June 6, 2025, at 12:00, the reference and information department of the Odesa National Scientific Library will host a presentation of the handbook Wonder Nearby: Clinical Cases in Pediatric Ophthalmology as part of the XXV All-Ukrainian exhibition-forum Ukrainian Book in Odesa.

The authors—scientists from SI "The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" (Odesa)—present a publication that showcases rare, truly astonishing, and unique cases in pediatric ophthalmology. The handbook was edited by Nadiia Fedorivna Bobrova, DMedSc, Professor, Honored Science and Technology Figure of Ukraine, ophthalmologist of higher category, head of the Department of Pediatric Ophthalmic Pathology and director of the Ukrainian Center for Pediatric Ophthalmology.

Since the establishment of the pediatric department in 1946, the Filatov Institute has accumulated extensive practical experience in diagnosing and treating congenital and acquired eye diseases in children from birth to 18 years old. The relevance and timeliness of this publication are driven by the increasing number of children suffering from various visual impairments.

The clinical cases featured in the handbook offer insight into the current level of diagnostic and therapeutic advancements available for a wide range of pediatric eye disorders. It analyzes unique cases of congenital eye malformations, traumatic injuries, inflammatory and oncological eye diseases, as well as innovative surgical techniques for restoring vision in childhood. The work discusses severe pediatric eye oncology cases, unusual injuries, congenital anomalies, advancements in surgical technology, the effects of COVID-19 on the eye, and other significant medical observations.

This handbook aims to enhance ophthalmological care for children to reduce blindness and visual impairment in Ukraine. The project is supported by the Ukrainian Book Institute and funded by the State Budget of Ukraine.
