October 17 – World Trauma Day
Protecting vision means preserving quality of life.
Eye injuries are one of the most dangerous causes of sudden vision loss. In the context of war, the number of eye injuries has significantly increased. Wounds, shockwaves, burns, and foreign bodies are the challenges faced not only by military personnel but also by civilians today.
Such injuries require immediate, highly specialized care, as every hour can determine whether a person will be able to see again. Even a minor injury can have serious consequences if medical specialists are not consulted in time.
At the State Institution “The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine,” the Department of Reconstructive Microsurgery of Post-Traumatic Eye Pathology operates, where patients with the most complex eye injuries are given the opportunity to see the world again.
