OBITUARY
An outstanding scientist and ophthalmologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Tetiana Andriivna Krasnovyd, passed away at the age of 88 on April 7, 2026.
Tetiana Andriivna Krasnovyd was born on June 28, 1938, in the town of Bratslav, Nemyriv district, Vinnytsia region. In 1961, she graduated with honors from the Vinnytsia State Medical Institute named after M. I. Pirogov, specializing in General Medicine. She began her professional career as an ophthalmologist at the Volodymyr-Volynsk inter-district hospital, and since 1963 dedicated her life to the Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy V. P. Filatov, where she progressed from postgraduate researcher to leading scientist and head of a department.
In 1966, she defended her Candidate of Medical Sciences dissertation on “Diurnal Variations in Intraocular Pressure and Adrenal Cortical Hormonal Activity”. In 1995, she defended her Doctor of Medical Sciences dissertation dedicated to the regularities of senile cataract progression and postoperative complications: "General Patterns and Prediction of Senile Cataract Progression. Pathogenetic Prerequisites for the Development of Major Postoperative Complications.”For many decades, she worked in the Department of Microsurgery of Ocular Trauma and its Consequences, mastering advanced diagnostic and treatment methods, conducted complex microsurgical operations.
Since 1993, she headed the Department of Reconstructive Microsurgery of Ocular Trauma and simultaneously led the Ukrainian Ophthalmic Trauma Center. She carried out extensive organizational, methodological, and consultative work, providing assistance to medical institutions across Ukraine.
Her scientific work was devoted to pressing issues in ophthalmology, particularly the treatment of ocular trauma, intraocular lens implantation, and the study of the pathogenesis of cataract and glaucoma. She authored more than 160 scientific publications, 7 inventions, numerous rationalization proposals, and methodological guidelines. Her scientific legacy includes fundamental monographs: “Eye Injuries: An Atlas”,“Traumatic Eye Injuries and Intraocular Foreign Bodies,” and “Submacular Hemorrhages: Clinical Features, Diagnosis, and Treatment”
Under her supervision, research personnel were trained and Candidate of Medical Sciences theses were defended.
Tetiana Andriivna actively participated in scientific life, presented at international conferences, and for many years was a member of the Board of the Ukrainian Ophthalmological Society. For her dedicated work, she was repeatedly awarded commendations and honors, including those from the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
She was a highly skilled specialist, a principled scientist, a responsible leader, a compassionate person who earned the respect of colleagues and patients alike.
The bright memory of Tetiana Andriivna Krasnovyd will forever remain in the hearts of her colleagues, students, and all who had the honor of working and communicating with her.
The staff of the State Institution “Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine” expresses deep sorrow over this irreparable loss.
