November 17 – World Prematurity Day
Each year, this date raises awareness in the medical community and society about the problems faced by premature infants. It also highlights the importance of timely, specialised medical care.
One of the most serious complications that affect the vision of premature newborns is retinopathy of prematurity (RP). This is a progressive retinal disease. Without timely diagnosis and treatment, it can lead to severe vision loss or blindness.
Specialists at the SI “the Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the NAMS of Ukraine” provide full medical support for high-risk infants, including:
- mandatory screening and early diagnosis for RP
- current treatment methods
- continuous monitoring of the retina in premature infants until the condition stabilises
Timely ophthalmological screening is essential. It helps prevent irreversible damage to vision.
Thanks to strong clinical expertise, long-term experience, and close interdisciplinary cooperation, the Institute’s specialists provide effective treatment and help preserve vision in premature infants.
We support the efforts of all those who work to ensure that every prematurely born child has a chance for a full life and healthy vision.
