Glaucoma is often referred to as the “silent thief of sight.” This disease can develop for a long time without noticeable symptoms, yet it gradually leads to irreversible vision loss. That is why World Glaucoma Day serves as a reminder of the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment.

In Ukraine, a significant contribution to the fight against this disease is made by the The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. Clinical management of glaucoma is carried out at the Department of Microsurgical Treatment of Glaucoma and Lens Pathologies, where particular attention is paid to modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of this complex condition.

The department provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of various forms of glaucoma using the latest advanced techniques, including non-surgical laser technologies and modern pharmacological regimens with innovative medications.

Among the areas of highly specialized care are:

  • anti-glaucoma surgeries performed using modern equipment, allowing effective treatment of patients with elevated intraocular pressure;
  • combined surgical interventions (phacoemulsification of cataract together with anti-glaucoma surgeries), enabling simultaneous treatment of cataract and glaucoma and ensuring faster and more effective patient rehabilitation.

Specialists of the Filatov Institute emphasize that early detection of glaucoma is key to preserving vision.

👁 Message for individuals over 40:
Even in the absence of visual complaints, it is necessary to check intraocular pressure and undergo a preventive ophthalmological examination at least once a year. Regular screening allows glaucoma to be detected at early stages and treatment to be initiated in a timely manner.

Take care of your vision — it is priceless.
