In Odesa, a lane in the Peresyp district has been named in honor of the legendary ophthalmologist Nadiya (Oleksandrivna) Puchkovska!

Academician Nadiya Puchkovska was a student of the renowned ophthalmologist, Academician Volodymyr Petrovych Filatov. She was a specialist in corneal transplantation and the treatment of eye burns. She proposed a number of innovative surgical methods for treating eye conditions and also worked in the field of tissue therapy. Under her leadership, laser technologies were developed and introduced into ophthalmology, as well as unique methods for vision restoration. A plastic surgery technique for symblepharon using a section of the cheek’s mucous membrane as a graft was named after Puchkovska.

Since 1946, Academician Puchkovska worked at the Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy named after Academician V. Filatov in Odesa: 1946–1952: Head of the clinical department; 1953–1956: Deputy Director for Science; 1956–1985: Director; 1986–2001: Professor-consultant.

Since 1956, she served as the editor of the Journal of Ophthalmology. Under her leadership, hundreds of dissertations were defended, essential scientific works were written and published, and the Filatov School—a scientific-practical school of ophthalmologists—continued to thrive and develop.

In 1998, Academician Nadiya Puchkovska was awarded - the Honorary Citizen of Odesa.

We honor the memory of a GREAT WOMAN!
