The main goal is to raise awareness about diabetes and its complications, particularly diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema, which can lead to vision loss.

🔹 What is diabetes?

It is a chronic disease in which the production or action of insulin—a hormone that regulates blood glucose levels—is impaired.

🔹 Types of diabetes:

▪️ Type 1 diabetes – develops in childhood or early adulthood.

▪️ Type 2 diabetes – the most common type, often linked to lifestyle.

▪️ Gestational diabetes – occurs during pregnancy.

🔹 Possible complications:

– Cardiovascular diseases

– Kidney damage

– Foot ulcers

– Vision problems: diabetic retinopathy and macular edema

👁 Vision impairment is one of the most serious complications of diabetes.

At SI "The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine", diabetic retinopathy is diagnosed and treated using modern methods—from laser coagulation to injections of the latest medications.

✅ Preventing type 2 diabetes:

– Balanced nutrition

– Physical activity

– Weight control

– Regular check-ups

📌 If you have diabetes, don't postpone a visit to an ophthalmologist. Early diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy can help preserve your vision!
