Retinoblastoma is a malignant tumor of the eye, developing mainly in young children, usually younger than 3 years. Rarely detected in children over 5 years. Retinoblastoma can affect one eye (unilateral, most common) or both eyes (bilateral). The bilateral form is most often hereditary.
Most often, retinoblastoma is genetically caused (if a child inherits a mutant allele of the gene RB1, according to the autosomal dominant type, then the second mutation, which occurs already in the retinoblast, leads to the formation of a tumor). Cases where parents, who have had retinoblastoma, have healthy children is of small percentage of the total number of children in such families.

Retinoblastoma is the most common intraocular malignant ocular tumor in children worldwide.
Since retinoblastoma mainly affects infants and young children who cannot explain any complaints, parents should pay attention to the following signs:
1. White in the center of the circle of the eye (pupil) when light hits the eye, for example, when someone photographs a child with a flash.
2. Eyes that look in different directions (strabismus)
3. Redness of the eyes
4. Reduced vision (the child is poorly oriented in space).
5. Swelling of the eyes.
