HOW DOES STRESS AFFECT YOUR EYES?
Health
20.03.2024Stress can have various effects on vision. Here are some ways it can appear:
- Eyestrain: during stress, we often strain our eyes, especially if we spend a lot of time on computers or other gadgets. This can lead to eye fatigue and temporary vision disturbances, such as blurring or increased sensitivity to light.
- Dry eyes: stress can reduce the blinking rate, leading to dry eyes and discomfort.
- Migraine: in some people, stress can trigger migraine, which may be accompanied by temporary vision impairment and a sense of blurriness.
- Eye twitching and myokymia: in some cases, stress can cause spasmodic contractions of the circular eye muscles, leading to myokymia or spasms, which can temporarily alter vision.
- Increased intraocular pressure: this is particularly important for people with glaucoma, as stress can temporarily increase the pressure inside the eye, which can worsen vision.
- Temporary vision impairment: during moments of stress, you may notice that your vision seems less clear or that it’s harder to focus.
- Psychosomatic disorder: in some people, stress can cause psychosomatic disorder, such as blurred vision or seeing auras around objects.
However, it’s important to understand that the impact of stress on vision is usually temporary and does not indicate serious eye problems. If you experience vision problems due to stress, they typically resolve after the stressful period ends. In any case, if you have serious or prolonged vision problems, it is recommended to consult an ophthalmologist for diagnosis and treatment.
Remember: the earlier treatment is started, the better the chances of regaining clear vision!
