Glaucoma and Cataract Challenges: From Diagnosis to Surgical Success

On August 7, 2026, a practical masterclass entitled “Diagnosis, Treatment, and Surgical Management of Complex Cases of Glaucoma and Cataract” was held, organised by the V.P. Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the NAMS of Ukraine in cooperation with the non-governmental organisation ‘Society of Ophthalmologists of Ukraine’..

The event brought together ophthalmologists, ophthalmology residents, and specialists interested in modern approaches to the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of glaucoma and cataract.

From a Clinical Case to a Well-Founded Decision

The main focus of the masterclass was practical skills, clinical experience, and current  decision-making algorithms for complex clinical situations.

Participants explored:

🔹 current approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma;

🔹 minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS);

🔹 advanced methods of imaging the anterior segment of the eye;

🔹 the specifics of managing patients following anti-glaucoma surgery;

🔹 surgical strategies for complicated cataracts;

🔹 the management of patients with comorbidities;

🔹 modern approaches to post-

A special focus of the programme was placed on the clinical analysis of complex cases, which enabled participants to analyse  the rationale behind diagnostic and surgical decisions and discuss different management options.

The Experience of the Filatov Institute at the Center of the Training

Leading specialists of the Filatov Institute shared their own clinical experience, modern technologies, and practical approaches that can be applied in the ophthalmologist’s daily practice.

The aim of the master class was to enhance professional competencies and practical skills in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of complex cases of glaucoma and cataract.
