Filatov Institute Upgrades Its Research Infrastructure

The SI “Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the NAMS of Ukraine” has received additional financial opportunities to upgrade its scientific equipment and develop its research infrastructure following the successful completion of the state certification of research institutions and higher education institutions, with the Institute being assigned Category B.
As part of the funding provided by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the Institute has already received its first piece of new equipment — an M7 dual-beam scanning spectrophotometer with a Peltier/Sipper flow-through system.
This instrument enables a wide range of modern laboratory studies, including analyses in the ultraviolet and visible spectral ranges, spectral and quantitative measurements, as well as multi-wavelength and kinetic studies (determination of enzyme activity, investigation of proteins, nucleic acids and pharmaceuticals, as well as studies of antioxidant systems and the kinetics of biochemical reactions). The Peltier/Sipper system provides precise temperature control and enables flow-through analysis of samples under predefined conditions, which is important for the stability and reproducibility of results.
Thanks to its dual-beam optical system, wide spectral range and high measurement accuracy, the instrument enables the acquisition of stable and reliable data that meet current requirements for scientific research.
The acquisition of the spectrophotometer is the first step in the systematic modernisation of the Institute’s research facilities. The new equipment will make it possible to:
- improve the accuracy and reliability of experimental studies;
- expand the capabilities of fundamental and applied research;
- strengthen the work of relevant departments, including the Laboratory of Fundamental Research in Biochemistry and Pathophysiology of the Eye, the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Tissue Therapy, and others;
- create modern conditions for studying the mechanisms underlying the development of diseases of the eye.
The Institute expects further deliveries of equipment as part of the additional funding, which will enable the continued modernisation of its material and technical infrastructure and further expansion of the institution’s research capabilities.
