From June 7 to 9, 2025, one of the largest scientific ophthalmology congresses — SOE 2025 — took place in Lisbon, Portugal, uniting leading specialists from around the world. The program featured symposia, workshops, live surgical broadcasts, scientific debates, and sessions for young ophthalmologists. It was a unique opportunity for international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and experience sharing.

Ukrainian ophthalmology was well represented at this prestigious global event. As part of the congress, a session of the vitreoretinal section titled “Vitreoretinal Surgery Highlights. Ukrainian Experience” was held under the moderation of Professors Nadiia Uliianova and Mykola Umanets.

Ophthalmologists from SI "The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine" actively participated in the congress, presenting 6 oral and 5 poster reports.

Among the oral presenters were leading specialists of the Institute:

🔹 Prof. Nadia Ulyanova – Head of the Department of Post Traumatic Eye Pathology, of Glaucoma and Lens Pathology

🔹 Prof. Mykola Umanets – Head of the Department of Pathology of Retina and Vitreous Body

🔹 Cand. of Med. Sc. Galyna Levytska and Yevhen Chumakov – ophthalmologists of the Division of Vitreoretinal Microsurgery

Poster reports were made by:

🔹 Cand. of Med. Sc. Oksana Sidak-Petretska – Head of the Division of Restorative and Reconstructive Microsurgery of Post-Traumatic Eye Pathology

🔹 Cand. of Med. Sc. Olha Guzun and Valeriia Shcherbakova – specialists of the Department of Studying Biological Action and Application of Lasers in Ophthalmology

The Institute’s specialists shared their experience in treating complex ophthalmologic conditions and presented innovative approaches already being implemented in clinical practice.
