❗️CONTACT LENSES + WATER = DANGER FOR YOUR VISION❗️

Many people believe that proper care of contact lenses is enough—but there's one strict rule that even experienced users often break.

Contact lenses must never come into contact with water. Anywhere. Ever.

🔹 Why is this so important?

Any water—whether in a shower, bath, sauna, pool, sea, river, or lake—contains countless microorganisms, bacteria, and viruses. One of the most dangerous is Acanthamoeba. This microorganism can cause Acanthamoeba keratitis, a severe, painful, and slow-progressing corneal infection that is extremely difficult to treat and often leads to vision impairment or complete blindness.

🔹 How does this happen?

A contact lens fits snugly against the cornea. Between the lens and the surface of the eye, a tear film forms, containing protein and sugar—an ideal breeding ground for microorganisms. Under these conditions, bacteria and amoebas don’t just survive—they multiply, causing corneal inflammation.

🔹 Remember:

  • Do not wash your face, shower, or go to a sauna or steam bath while wearing lenses.
  • Do not swim in the sea, lake, river, or pool with contact lenses.
  • Even brief contact with water poses a risk to your vision.
