Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), or digital eye strain, is a collection of vision problems that arise from prolonged use of computers, tablets, or smartphones. This syndrome is becoming increasingly common due to the growing use of digital devices in everyday life.

Symptoms of CVS:

  1. Visual symptoms:
    • Blurred or double vision.
    • Eye fatigue.
    • Dryness or burning sensation in the eyes.
    • Itching and redness of the eyes.
    • Feeling of sand or a foreign body in the eyes.
  2. Systemic symptoms:
    • Headache.
    • Neck and shoulder pain.
    • Facial muscle tension.

Causes of CVS:

  1. Prolonged Screen Use:
  • Long-term focus on the screen without breaks.
  • Incorrect screen distance or poor angle.

2. Insufficient blinking:

    • During computer work, the blinking rate decreases, leading to dry eyes.

3. Improper lighting:

    • Glare on the screen or overly bright lighting can cause eye strain.

4. Poor posture:

    • Incorrect body position during work can cause neck, back, and shoulder pain.

Prevention and treatment of CVS:

  1. Regular breaks:
    • Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at an object 20 feet (about 6 meters) away for 20 seconds.

2. Workspace optimization:

  • Adjust the height and distance of the screen.
  • Use monitor stands if necessary.
  • Ensure proper lighting in the workspace.

3. Use of moisturizing drops:

  • Use artificial tears to keep the eyes hydrated.

4. Regular blinking:

  • Try to consciously blink more often while working on the computer.

5. Special glasses:

Use glasses with anti-glare coating or special computer glasses.

6. Vision correction:

  • If you have vision problems, make sure your glasses or contact lenses are properly fitted for computer work.

If symptoms persist, be sure to consult an ophthalmologist for advice and necessary treatment.
