Lacrimal passages pathology in childhood is an important topic in ophthalmology, as these pathways play a crucial role in protecting and moisturizing the eye. The main aspects covered during the internship include:
ANATOMY OF LACRIMAL PASSAGES:
Overview of the lacrimal gland, lacrimal puncta, lacrimal canals, lacrimal sac and nasolacrimal duct.
Anatomical features in children and differences from adults.
FUNCTIONS OF LACRIMAL PASSAGES:
Mechanism of tear production and drainage.
Role of tears in eye protection and moisturizing.
COMMON PATHOLOGIES:
Congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction.
Dacryocystitis in newborns.
Stenosis or obstruction of lacrimal passages.
DIAGNOSTIC METHODS:
Clinical examination and history taking.
Lacrimal passages tests (provocative tests).
Instrumental methods: dacryocystography, ultrasound diagnostics.
TREATMENT OF LACRIMAL PASSAGES PATHOLOGY:
Conservative methods: lacrimal sac massage, lacrimal passages irrigation.
Medication treatment: antibiotics, anti-inflammatory agents.
Surgical methods: probing, dacryocystorhinostomy.
PRACTICAL SESSIONS:
Introduction to clinical cases.
Conducting diagnostic tests under the supervision of experienced specialists.
Participation in surgical interventions and procedures.
LITERATURE AND RESOURCES:
Textbooks and monographs on pediatric ophthalmology.
Scientific articles and reviews on lacrimal passages pathology.
THIS INTERNSHIP WILL PROVIDE DEEP KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICAL SKILLS FOR EFFECTIVE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF LACRIMAL PASSAGES PATHOLOGY IN CHILDHOOD.
