A NEW MONOGRAPH ON OPHTHALMOLOGICAL ONCOLOGY HAS BEEN PUBLISHED
A monograph entitled “Intraocular Melanoma: Current and Emerging Treatment Strategies” has been published in English by a group of authors — A. P. Maletskyi, L. M. Velychko, M. M. Umants, O. V. Khomiakova, and Ye. A. Chumakov.
This publication is devoted to current and promising approaches to the treatment of intraocular (uveal) melanoma — one of the most aggressive malignant tumours of the organ of vision, which poses a threat both to visual function and to the patients’ lives.
The monograph summarises the authors’ many years of clinical experience and presents the concept of systemic, organ-preserving treatment using radiotherapy and laser therapy, intraocular surgery, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, as well as their combinations. Special attention is paid to the role of immunological mechanisms in the development of the tumor process and the possibilities of their correction.
The monograph is intended for ophthalmologists, ophthalmic oncologists, and researchers, and may be useful for the international professional community.
