150 years since the birth of Volodymyr Petrovych Filatov
On February 27, 2025, we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the prominent Ukrainian scientist, ophthalmologist, founder of the national scientific school of ophthalmology, inventor, educator, artist, writer, and public figure Volodymyr Petrovych Filatov (1875–1956).
V. Filatov made an invaluable contribution to the development of medicine, particularly ophthalmology. He developed unique methods for treating eye diseases, including the corneal transplantation technique that saved the sight of thousands of people. His research in the field of tissue therapy laid the foundation for future medical discoveries.
Volodymyr Filatov was the founder of the Odesa Institute of Ophthalmology and Tissue Therapy, which now bears his name. His scientific and educational work contributed to the training of many generations of doctors and researchers, and his numerous works remain relevant to this day.
Beyond his medical activities, he was a talented artist and writer, showcasing his multifaceted talents and deep interest in advancing Ukrainian culture and science.
