123rd DOG CONGRESS IN BERLIN: UKRAINIAN OPHTHALMOLOGISTS AMONG GLOBAL EXPERTS

From September 25 to October 1, 2025, the 123rd DOG Congress, organized by the German Ophthalmological Society, took place in Berlin under the theme:
"Ophthalmology in Transition – Shaping the Future Together."

🔹 Over the course of four days, leading specialists from around the world discussed innovations and challenges in modern ophthalmology. The program included lectures by international experts, an innovation forum, Expert Day, startup presentations, poster sessions, and fundamental research reports.

👁 Ukraine was proudly represented on the global stage by SI "The The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine":

• The Corneal Pathology Department, headed by Prof. Halyna Drozhzhyna, presented the following reports:
▪️ “Features of Primary and Recurrent Herpetic Keratitis after COVID-19 Infection” (G.I. Drozhzhyna, K.V. Sereda)
▪️ “CD15⁺ as a Marker of Ocular Surface Dysregulation in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus” (G.I. Drozhzhyna, T.M. Zhmud)

• Prof. Nataliya Konovalova (Department of Inflammatory Eye Diseases) presented a poster:
▪️ “The Functional State of the Visual Analyzer in Non-Arteritic Ischemic Optic Neuropathy.”

• Poster presentations were also delivered by:
▪️ V.V. Shcherbakova – a series of studies on the application of artificial intelligence in diagnosing diabetic retinopathy:

“Detecting Diabetic Retinopathy in Individuals with Objective Indicators Suggestive of Possible Undiagnosed Diabetes Mellitus Using an Artificial Intelligence-Based Software Platform”

“Assessing the Possibility of Using Portable and Stationary Non-Mydriatic Fundus Cameras for Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Assisted by an Artificial Intelligence-Based Software Platform in Primary Care”

▪️ A.A. Peshkova – “Density of the Photoreceptors in the Macula in Children After Retinopathy of Prematurity.”

🌍 The participation of Ukrainian ophthalmologists in such a large-scale international forum once again highlights the high level of scientific research and professionalism of our specialists.
