Responsibility for Academic Integrity Violations: What the New Law Changes

The Law of Ukraine “On Academic Integrity” entered into force on February 1, 2026, and will and will be implemented on July 31, 2026 (six months after its official publication).
During this period, the Government is required to adopt all necessary by-laws and align existing regulatory documents with the new law.
🔎 What is academic integrity?
Academic integrity is a system of values, principles, and rules that must be observed by all participants in the educational and research process, including medical educators, researchers, students, experts, competition organizers, educational institutions, and research organizations.
⚠️ The law clearly defines violations, including:
- plagiarism and self-plagiarism
- data fabrication and falsification
- copying and unauthorized assistance
- non-independent completion of assignments
- improper use of AI-generated results
- unlawful attribution of authorship, sabotage, and others
- annulment of work results or grades
- disqualification from participation in competitions
- disciplinary sanctions or dismissal
- revocation of academic degrees or qualifications
- prohibition from holding managerial positions for up to 10 years
