From 26 to 28 August 2026, Chernivtsi hosted, the 14th International Conference “Nanotechnologies and Nanomaterials” (NANO-2026)  — a large-scale scientific forum that brought together more than 600 scientists from over 30 countries worldwide.

The conference was held in a hybrid format. It was organised by the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Chernivtsi National University, and international partners from Estonia, Italy, France, Greece, and Poland.

One of the important areas of NANO-2026 was nanobiotechnology for medicine, which opens up prospects for the development of modern methods for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases.

An important contribution from Ukrainian ophthalmological science was made by specialists from the SI "Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the NAMS of Ukraine".

The results of joint research conducted by immunologists, biologists, and ophthalmologists were presented at the 14th International Conference  on “Nanotechnologies and Nanomaterials” (NANO-2026) by M.B. Makarova, Candidate of Medical Sciences and ophthalmologist-immunologist. The research focused on the topic:

“Mitochondrial Changes in Rabbit Corneal Endothelial Cells Induced by Silver Nanoparticle Instillations.”

The research presented at the international scientific forum demonstrates the importance of studying the impact of nanomaterials on the cellular structures of the eye and highlights the relevance of an interdisciplinary approach to modern ophthalmology.

For the Filatov Institute, participation in NANO-2026 is not only an opportunity to present the results of its own research, but also an important step toward integrating ophthalmological science into the international scientific community, exchanging expertise, and developing new areas of collaboration.

Despite the extremely challenging conditions, scientific research at the Filatov Institute continues. Research at the intersection of ophthalmology, biology, nanotechnology, and medicine is an important component of the advancement of modern science and the development of new opportunities for preserving and restoring vision.
