The study was carried out through extensive international collaboration involving leading ophthalmological centers in Europe and Asia, including Switzerland, France, Poland, Thailand, Taiwan, and other countries. The collaboration highlights the global nature of the research. It also highlights the integration of Ukrainian science into the international scientific community. The Ukrainian side was represented by researchers from the Department of Inflammatory and Post-Burn Eye Pathology: Professor Oleksandra Zborovska and Candidate of Medical Sciences Oleksandra Dorokhova.

The study is devoted to a contemporary revision of the classification of the so-called white dot syndromes. These syndromes are a group of inflammatory eye diseases. They have long been classified solely according to their clinical features. The authors propose a pathophysiologically grounded approach. They consider these conditions within a single category of non-infectious choroiditis. They then subdivide them into subgroups according to the mechanisms of inflammation and anatomical localisation.

Specifically, two main groups are identified:

• Diseases associated with inflammatory impairment of choriocapillaris blood flow (Multiple Evanescent White Dot Syndrome; Acute Posterior Multifocal Placoid Pigment Epitheliopathy; Multifocal Choroiditis; Serpiginous Choroiditis).
• Diseases with primary involvement of the choroidal stroma (Birdshot Retinochoroiditis; Vogt–Koyanagi–Harada Disease; Sympathetic Ophthalmia).

The proposed classification makes it possible to improve diagnostic accuracy. It improves the differentiation of inflammatory eye diseases. It also provides a foundation for a personalised approach to treatment.

The study results were published in the first-quartile (Q1) journal Diagnostics. The journal is indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed. Publication in such a journal confirms the high scientific standard of the study. It also confirms the international recognition of Ukrainian researchers.
