FLORetina-ICOOR 2025 in Florence: the Filatov Institute’s significant contribution to global ophthalmology
From 4 to 7 December, FLORetina-ICOOR 2025, one of the largest international congresses on retinal diseases, was held in Florence. The event brought together more than 3,000 clinicians, researchers, and industry leaders.
They discussed the latest advances in retinal imaging, artificial intelligence, gene and cell technologies, and modern vitreoretinal surgery.
The event also hosted the International Congress on Retinopathy of Prematurity. It is held every four years. It defines global standards for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).
This year, Ukraine and the SI “Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the NAMS of Ukraine” were represented by the ROP research team. The team was led by Serhii Volodymyrovych Katsan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Medical Director of the Institute..
Our staff presented three scientific reports:
- Oleksandr Artamonov: Analysis of micromovements of the eyes during static fixation in children aged 6–13 years with retinopathy of prematurity after laser photocoagulation using eye-tracking technology.
- Olena Budivska: Comparative analysis of the incidence of active retinopathy of prematurity and the effectiveness of the regional model of ophthalmic care in Southern Ukraine.
- Anastasiia Pieshkova: Density and dispersion of cones in the parafoveolar region assessed using adaptive optics in children aged 9–15 years after retinopathy of prematurity.
During the discussions, participants addressed early diagnosis, criteria of disease activity, effectiveness of care models, and long-term treatment outcomes.
We are proud of our team and its contribution to global ophthalmology.
