On 8 December 2025, a unique event was held at the SI “Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the NAMS of Ukraine”. The event was an online open lecture with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Tunisia also accredited to the  State of Libya, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Volodymyr Anatoliiovych Khomants.

The Ambassador is an experienced diplomat. He previously served in the Embassies of Ukraine in the United States and the United Kingdom. He shared his vision of current  diplomacy with young physicians and researchers of the Filatov Institute. Also discussed the role of diplomacy in the development of pharmacy and medicine.

During the lecture, he emphasised the importance of the economic dimension of international relations. Highlighted the key role of business in promoting national interests.

The Ambassador shared examples from his 25 years of diplomatic experience. These included both successful and challenging cases of economic diplomacy. V. A. Khomants  also spoke about current priorities of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Tunisia.

In the field of education, the Ambassador noted Tunisia’s interest in educating its citizens in Ukraine. And emphasised the high quality of Ukrainian higher education, which successfully competes with European education systems.

Associate Professor Oleksandra Volodymyrivna Zborovska, Deputy Director for Research and Educational Work, expressed gratitude for the cooperation. She emphasized that the Filatov Institute plans to further expand international cooperation with educational and research institutions in Tunisia.

The lecture was rich in content and interdisciplinary in scope. It provided valuable knowledge for young physicians and researchers. It also helped broaden their worldview and strengthen skills in international collaboration.
