On 22 December 2025, an event was held at the SI “Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the NAMS of Ukraine”. It focused on the proper use of personal protective equipment by healthcare workers. The main topic was respirator fit testing.

Raising awareness among healthcare workers about personal protective equipment is an important part of safety culture. It also supports effective infection control in healthcare institutions.

During the event, it was emphasised that respirator fit testing is mandatory for healthcare workers who use respirators in their work. Fit testing determines whether the model, brand, and size of a respirator match the worker’s facial features. This ensures proper aerosol protection when the respirator is used correctly.

The following key points were highlighted:
✔ Fit testing must be performed annually.
✔ Retesting is required in case of weight change, facial scars, or dental prostheses.
✔ Healthcare institutions must provide different respirator models and sizes for testing.

The event also covered qualitative and quantitative fit testing methods. It explained their procedures and documentation requirements.

The Institute will continue to prioritize healthcare worker safety. It will also support current infection control standards.
