A MASTERCLASS ENTITLED “DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF OPHTHALMIC TUMOURS’ WAS HELD AT THE FILATOV INSTITUTE”

On 19 June 2026, a scientific and practical masterclass titled “Diagnosis and Treatment of Ocular Tumours” was held. The event was organised by the  NGO ‘Society of Ophthalmologists of Ukraine’ in collaboration with the SI ‘V.P. Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy of the NAMS of Ukraine’.

The event was held in a hybrid format, brought together ophthalmologists, paediatric ophthalmologists, oncologic surgeons, laboratory diagnostics specialists, and other medical professionals from various  regions of Ukraine.

Aim of the Master Class  was to familiarise participants with latest approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant ocular tumours. It also aimed to improve clinical skills in the management of patients with ophthalmic oncology conditions.

Presentations were given by leading specialists from the Filatov Institute:

Anatoliy Parfentiyovych Maletskyi- Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor and Head of the Department of Ophthalmic Oncology, presented current  approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of intraocular tumours;

Svitlana Ivanivna Polyakova- Doctor of Medical Sciences, discussed the diagnosis and treatment of orbital tumours;

Iryna Oleksiivna Safronenkova-Doctor of Medical Sciences, presented a report on the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumours of the eyelids and conjunctiva.

The practical session aroused particular interest among participants; during this session, clinical cases were analysed, differential diagnosis algorithms were discussed, and modern approaches to the treatment of patients with tumours of the eye were examined.

Special attention was given to the interpretation of imaging and diagnostic methods, including:
optical coherence tomography (OCT), ultrasound examination, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

The event concluded with a final assessment test, allowing participants to evaluate their acquired knowledge and confirm learning outcomes.

Such educational activities contribute to the integration of latest advances in ophthalmic oncology into clinical practice. They also enhance physicians’ professional competence and improve the quality of medical care for patients with ocular tumours.
