Usage of phacoemulsification in patients with astigmatism
It is known, that corneal astigmatism can significantly reduce visual
functions. Thus, corneal astigmatism of 0,75 dptr reduces visual acuity to 0,6-0,7,
at 1,0 dptr ─ to 0,5, at 2,0 dptr ─ to 0,2, and with astigmatism 3,0 dptr -
vision acuity can be less than 0,1.
Specialists of SI "The Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue
Therapy of NAMS of Ukraine" use phacoemulsification (FE) with implantation
of toric intraocular lenses (IOL), which is one of the effective methods of
All patients underwent FE with toric IOL implantation using Centurion
Vision System operating system. The calculation of the optical power of IOL is
carried out on the optical biometer "Lenstar L900." The type and
degree of corneal astigmatism were determined by the keratotopograph
Digital marking of corneal meridians, centering of toric IOL are performed,
accompanied by navigation system "VERION Image Guided System"
("VERION") according to pre-selected plan of surgery.
Thanks to careful calculations, the surgery proceeds without complications,
IOL occupies the correct position relative to chosen meridians. Visual acuity
(VA), in observed patients, was 0,85+0,14 in the first 2 days after surgery. VA
in 1 month after surgery in patients was 1,0+0,12. In 98% of cases, the
spheroequivalent of eye refraction in patients in 1 month after surgery was
from – 0,5 dptr. up to + 0,5 dptr. (-0,32+0,19 dptr.). The astigmatic
component of the refraction did not exceed 0,5+0,14 dptr.
The use of FE with implantation of toric SPF together with the digital
navigation system "VERION" allow to correct corneal astigmatism with
